Currently any successful and effective products, strategies, and services we can think of, are most certainly data driven – be it making sense of the Covid-19 spread or the spot-on suggestions we receive from Netflix or Amazon. With every passing day, we are becoming more reliant on digital devices and services which leads us towards generating more data. Now more than ever, data is being accumulated in huge volumes at a rapid speed in diverse forms and shapes. The more data we generate, it becomes more important for the business and organizations to analyze them because they like to know how we behave in relation to their product and services. Absolutely! And that’s where Savannah State University steps in. SSU’s brand new BS in Data Analytics program will teach students how to use technology to find, collect and analyze data to detect the trends and extract information.

But this is not your typical run-of-the-mill Data Analytics Program. It is developed with a focus on nurturing a student’s passion for an academic discipline to transform it into a career path.

Features of SSU’s Data Analytics Degree 

• The curriculum includes opportunity to complete at least 15 credits from any major discipline in which students wish to acquire knowledge and attain expertise to join the discipline-specific workforce.

For example, if you want to join Homeland Security related job such as Intelligence Analyst after your graduation, you can prepare yourself by taking 15 credits (21 credits if you include free electives) worth of Homeland Security major courses offered at SSU. It will prepare you for the job despite of not acquiring a degree in Homeland Security. This is true for any program we offer at SSU.

• Face-to-face, classroom-based learning experiences are valued in the program, although some classes may be offered in online and/or hybrid modality mainly to accommodate work schedule.
• Through working partnership with industries such as Gulfstream and Unilever, the program will offer Cooperative Experiential Learning (Co-op) and Internship programs to eligible students.
• All major core and elective data-specific courses will be taught by adopting a unique and project-based approach by using real-life data collected via industry collaboration. It will allow the students experience real-world problems and finding solutions. The focus is to turn data into actionable insights.
