Data Analytics Certificate

The undergraduate certificate program in Interdisciplinary Data Analytics (IDA) at Savannah State University (SSU) was launched in fall 2018 as a part of the project, Targeted Infusion Project in Interdisciplinary Data Analytics (TIP-IDA) funded by National Science Foundation. This cross-disciplinary project is a joint effort between the three colleges of  SSU - College of Business Administration (COBA), College of Sciences and Technology (COST), and College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). The IDA certificate focuses on understanding how to interpret, use, and apply data in the workplace. Students learn foundational computing and statistical skills like visualization, predictive analytics tools, and computer coding with the aid of different software packages such as Python, R, MATLAB, SAS and Tableau. This certificate program also focuses on improving the methodological, technical, mathematical, statistical, software and discipline-based research in the area of Data Analytics and Data Science - thus providing a fantastic starting point for pursuing advanced level degree in aforementioned areas. The IDA certificate program is open to both STEM and non-STEM majors from SSU or outside. Additionally, the overarching goal of TIP-IDA project is to prepare students in data analytics methodologies and tools in their respective disciplines through one-to-one research mentoring in order to help them meet the ever-changing big data landscape of twenty-first century. The overall job outlook for Data Analytics professionals is very promising. According to the the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of operations and research analysts (including data analysts) is projected to grow 25 percent from 2019 to 2029, which the BLS  rates as much faster than the average for all occupations.

Courses are available fully online for student’s convenience: A student can complete a certificate fully online

*Please note that if a student has already completed any of the above listed courses towards an existing major or minor, then a student will get credit up to two courses (6 credit hours depending on the course) towards their Data Analytics certificate. For example, if a CILS major student has already taken Introduction to Data Analytics and Mining Course towards his/her CILS major then that course will be exempt for the student, and only two such exemptions will be allowed in the entire series of six courses, this means there will be at least four unique courses towards Data Analytics certificate.
