JMC Internship for Credit
All mass communications majors must enroll in and successfully complete COMM 4902 (professional media internship), a three-hour credit course, which is included in the 122 credit hours necessary to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Savannah State University.
The internship coordinator is responsible for screening all internship sites, monitoring student performance, communicating with site supervisors about the performance and the quality of work produced by JMC’s interns in the workplace.
Internship sites have included the WTOC-TV news, The Salvation Army communications department, Overcoming by Faith Ministries media, The Creative Coast, WHCJ radio station, Dick Broadcast Company, Cumulus Broadcasting, ESPN Coastal, Alpha Media, Sony Music/Epic Records, WSB-TV, Fulton County government television, Dalton PR agency, and WSAV-TV.
Guidelines
- Intern must be supervised by a professional in the specified track.
- Intern must work 150 hours/semester.
- Intern must complete the internship contract and internship information sheet prior to starting the internship.
