Conference History:

The SSU Annual Research Conference (ARC) was started at SSU in 2011 through funding from the NSF HBCU-UP Implementation Project Grant.  SSU has institutionalized these conferences with supplemental support from NOAA, holding the conference each year since 2011.

The conferences are held to recognize graduate and undergraduate students engaged in research. The   format is networking sessions and poster presentations, where students present posters of research conducted over the prior year.  ARC also includes panel discussions and guest speakers to stimulate interest in research at SSU.

Students from each college/school of the University are encouraged to participate, as evidence shows that research training is critical to building skills needed for success in the job market and in graduate programs.

The most recent conference was the 8th Annual Research Conference on April 24, 2018.  Over 130 students presented their research. See proceedings here.
