Confucius Institute

Dear Community and Supporters:

The Savannah State University’s Confucius Institute (SSU/CI) has closed after six years of serving the community. We have gained many supporters and friends since the opening ceremony and  have made extraordinary progress in the last six years; this was due to the  personal involvement and commitment  of Savannah State University, Jiujiang University, Savannah Chatham County Public Schools System, CI students, friends, and the community. Your individual contributions, be it through participation in activities, moral support, volunteerism or philanthropy was the thrust that increased CI’s opportunity to serve the community.

In the spring of 2015 SSU/CI expanded from offering courses on SSU campus to  teaching mandarin in a  private school, by the end of 2019-2020  academic year CI teachers served five schools in Chatham County from grades K-12.The Confucius Institute  final enrollment K-adult for 2020 was over 1800.

Savannah State University Confucius Institute is proud of the service we provided to  Savannah’s  region. We close our doors having informed, educated and entertained  the community.  We accomplished our purpose  in promoting inter-racial goodwill, teaching language and cultural arts to both young and old people.

In the last six years CI provided  over 200 hundred events and cultural activities:  concerts, operas, ethnic dances, exhibitions, fairs, festivals, workshops, and  lectures.  SSU/ Ci sponsored student scholarships, trips  to China for  students and educators. Students  participated in  camps, lessons,  and tours.  Educators   networked with like educators and professionals became informed about China’s infrastructure, and  toured China.

Humbly we thank you!

Savannah State University will continue through its International Education  programs to build new  pathways  with  cultural exchange programs.

We thank you for a great six years of  support   and in assisting SSU/CI to fulfil its mission,  and  although  we are sad to leave  we are proud that we were able to introduce students to a new language and  to  understanding  and appreciating  differences in  cultures.

SSU/CI’s mission is to serve as a platform that promotes intercultural understanding in the U.S., as well as the study of Chinese language and culture (including art, music and literature), and to enhance educational exchange between the US and China.

Sincerely,

SS/CI Directors and Teaching Staff
