SSU Coast Camp
Coast Camp is a month of ocean science fun for students. Sponsored by the NOAA Living Marine Resource Cooperative Science Center and Savannah State University, Coast Camp is a half-day ocean science program that teaches students about the ocean in an interactive, hands-on curriculum. This academic camp utilizes science, math and writing skills in conjunction with the Ocean Literacy Principles. The program fee is $150 for the 4-week camp. The Coast Camp program runs four, congruent camps with age appropriate activties for each camp group.
Part of the mission of the SSU Coast Camp program is to provide real science experiences for the young people who participate in our program. Each camp is designed to provide time in the classroom with hands-on instruction as well as outdoor field work in the marine sciences.
The Coast Camp program works with SSU faculty, students and staff to provide a meaningful science experience campers can use at school and in their future as a scientist.
Camp starts Monday, June 1 and ends Friday, June 26. Camp is a half day for four weeks exploring ocean and marsh ecology with field trips. All camps will visit Tybee Island North Beach. Additional field trips may include Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery, Pin Point Heritage Museum, Savannah Wildlife Refuge and other local resources (Dependant on availability). Our age appropriate camps are:
