Savannah State University
Fifth-Year Interim Report

Dr. Cheryl Davenport Dozier

Welcome to our Commission on Colleges (COC) of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) web site. This Fifth-Year Interim Report for Savannah State University (SSU) is the result of significant engagement and input from our faculty, staff and administration.

For 127 years, Savannah State University has been an important part of higher education. As the oldest public HBCU in Georgia and the oldest institution of higher learning in the historic city of Savannah, SSU has served this community with distinction while meeting the educational needs of an increasingly diverse student population. The institution is located on a vibrant residential campus, which offers a quality collegiate life: relevant academic majors, engaging lectures, cutting-edge research, excellent student-faculty engagement and a nurturing environment.

As we continue to formally evaluate our policies and procedures through the SACS process, we remain committed to continually improving this historically significant institution, which has made a "seriously impressive impact" on the lives of students and alumni since 1890.
