Lieutenant Lawrence E. Brown

Lawrence E. Brown was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014, but he started his law enforcement career with the Savannah Metro Police Department in 1986. While at SCMPD he was assigned to the patrol division. He later went to the Vice Unit and served on the DEA Task Force. He is a certified P.O.S.T Field Training Officer. He is also a graduate of the P.O.S.T Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) School, and served on the SCMPD SWAT Team. Lt. Brown has 31 years of law enforcement experience.

Lt. Brown hails from Roanoke, VA, and joined the U.S. Army in 1980. During his six years of active duty he served as a non-commissioned officer at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point serving the Core of Cadets. He also served a few years in Western Europe before returning to the U.S. and joining the SCMPD.

Lt. Brown is currently the Patrol Division Commander and the SWAT Team Commander. As the commander, he is responsible for evaluating, developing and implementing departmental policies and goals of the division. Lt. Brown assists with the daily operation of the Department of Public Safety at Savannah State University. Lt. Brown studies martial arts and enjoys playing basketball. Lt. Brown is a proud Prince Hall Mason and Prince Hall Shriner.
