Biography

Dr. Shawn Rosenquist joined the faculty of Savannah State University in fall of 2016 as an Instructor in the Environmental Science Program. Prior to this, Dr. Rose worked as a post-doctoral research scientist at Phinizy Center for Water Sciences, in Augusta, GA. He conducted water quality and hydrology research on the Savannah River and its tributaries including significant work on oxygen and carbon dioxide dynamics in the river and pathogen contamination in tributaries. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech (Ph.D. Biological Systems Engineering, 2010) and NC State (B.S. Mechanical Engineering, 2004). His doctoral research at Virginia Tech was in the management of phosphorus in runoff through engineered media and biochemical processes in constructed wetlands. He has had the opportunity to travel extensively both professionally and independently including most of the US and also various locations in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Research Interests

•Hydrology (Estuarine Hydrology, Urban Stormwater Management) •Urban Agriculture (e.g. Aquaponics, Vertical Farming, Urban Soil Restoration, Community Gardens) •Community-based Sustainability Initiatives •Environmental Water Quality (e.g. Pathogen Contamination, Dissolved Oxygen, Nutrient Management) •Global Water and Sanitation Issues
