Biography

Dr. Marriott is the Coordinator of the Forensic Science program and helped to establish the BS degree in Forensic Science approved by the USG, Board of Regents in 2011. Marriott was featured in the January issue of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education as an Emerging Scholar for 2013. Dr. Marriott serves as Principal Investigator (PI) and CoPI on National Institute of Health (NIH), NASA and National Science Foundation (NSF) grant projects. In 2014 Dr. Marriott collaborated on research that was launched into Space on the Space-X 3 Falcon 9 Rocket’s Dragon Capsule, eventually docking at NASA’s International Space Station (ISS). On board this capsule, the mission included the NASA University Research- 1 (UR-1) team’s groundbreaking student-based research, focused on the development of benzofuran carboxylic acid derivatives designed for immune system augmentation, restoration of immune cell functions and inhibition of cancer initiation and growth. Her research goal is to contribute to the development of therapeutic agents for use in treating immune and neurodegenerative disorders as well as cancer via interdisciplinary collaborative research. As such this work has the potential to contribute to a better understanding of the biochemical mechanisms involved in these disorders.

Organic Synthesis/Medicinal Chemistry Development of therapeutic agents for use in treating immune and neurodegenerative disorders as well as cancer via interdisciplinary collaborative research. Dr. Marriott is also a self-taught freehand naturalist painter; medium acrylic on canvas.
