New Student Orientation

Overview

Concurrently with Savannah State University’s Week of Welcome prior to the start of the academic year, the NROTC Unit conducts a New Student Orientation (NSO) for the incoming freshmen class interested in enrolling in the NROTC Program. Scholarship students and College Program-Basic students are required to attend in order to participate in NROTC events and training.

Topics covered include but are not limited to Navy and Marine Corps history, military customs and courtesies, introduction to military drill, uniform wear, leadership traits and characteristics, and physical fitness assessments.

NSO is NOT boot camp. However, new students will be expected to meet minimum standards in order to be accepted into the NROTC program. NSO is a fast paced and detailed period of instruction to prepare new students for the standards expected of Midshipmen within the NROTC unit.
