U.S. Army Education Outreach Program (AEOP) - eCybermission Project

About the Program

Savannah State University (SSU) was awarded a Pilot Project grant from U.S. Army Education Outreach Program (AEOP) in May 2018 for eCybermission Projects. The project will be active for approximately one year from May 2018 to April 2019. As part of the eCybermission project approximately 250 students from Savannah Chatham County Public Schools System (SCCPSS), primarily 6th to 9th grade will pursue a group project from August 2018 to March 2018. Student groups of size four will identify a community related problem with STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) focus. The students will receive guidance from the designated faculty members and School Teachers from SCCPSS. Additionally, student groups will receive guidance from U.S. Army AEOP mentors based on the nature of the selected project. Student groups along with parents, SSU eCybermission faculty advisors, SCCPSS Teachers will participate in a bi-weekly mentoring/advising meeting that is conducted at Savannah State University from 9 am to noon.

Goals of the Weekend Academy

The program will run on the Bi-weekly weekends (every alternate Saturday) and will be conducted by SSU faculty and SCCPSS teachers during the academic year. The weekend academy is geared to: (i) promote self-discovery, (ii) understand the real-life applications of STEM, (iii) submission of mission folder, (iv) prepare them to compete in teams in e eCybermission program, (v) career counseling, (vi) scholarship information for college funding, and (vii) Move on When Ready (Early College) Programs among others. Four guest speakers will be invited and a parent’s night will be arranged to educate the parents about their children’s career in STEM areas.
