Meet the Coordinator of Disability Services

protrait of Amelia Castilian-Moore, Coordinator of Disability ServicesHello! My name is Amelia Castilian-Moore and I am the Coordinator of Disability Services at SSU. I grew up here in Savannah and I love my hometown. I studied Psychology as an undergraduate at GA Southern University and studied Social Work at the University of GA in grad school. I have worked as a Licensed Master Social Worker at GA Regional Hospital, Curtis Cooper Health Clinic and at the Disability Services Office at Armstrong Atlantic State University. I was honored to be named the 2011 College Counselor of the Year by the Georgia College Counseling Association. For fun, I bake and do cake decorating, go to the beach to collect shells, go to garage sales and antique stores and raise a very big English Bulldog. I enjoy co-hosting our Friday noon radio show, Stir It Up, on the SSU radio station occasionally.

Our office provides supervision to an intern from our Social Work Department or students earning advanced degrees in counseling at another college. These interns are working on professional skills and understand the importance of confidentiality and following the ethical standards of their profession. You may receive assistance from an intern in our office sometimes and I think you will find that they care and will work hard to assist you. Social work bachelor or master’s level students who are interested in a field placement in our office should contact me.

The most important thing to remember about me is that I want to help YOU be successful in your academic career and we have to work together as a team for that to happen. We need to communicate frequently and you need to keep me up to date on how things are going so I can help you effectively. On graduation day, no one with a degree in their hands has ever come up to me and told me they regretted using their accommodations! The process starts with you… most of the time I can’t do my job well until you do your part or communicate with me first. I look forward to getting to know you and working with you.
