Empowerment Panel Discussion, "Being Black In America"

The Homecoming 2014 Empowerment Panel Discussion, sponsored by the Campus Activities Board in partnership with the HIV/AIDS/Substance Abuse/Hepatitis Awareness Project and hosted by Elijah Jones, addressed the topic "Being Black In America: Past, Present, & Future". There were several discussions ranging from entertainment, music, film, stereotypes, academics, and self-worth. The panel had diverse perspectives from SSU faculty and staff ranging from the Office of Admissions (Ashley Stewart & Shatealy Johnson), the Division of Student Affairs (Shed Dawson), and the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications (Professor Wanda Lloyd & Professor Edward Fletcher). The celebrity panelist was Lance Gross, actor and photographer, known for his roles in television shows Crisis and House of Payne and films such as Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor and Our Family Wedding. Students enjoyed the variety of opinions and enthusiasm of the panelists.
