Eligibility Requirements:

Savannah State University offers scholarships to undergraduates and graduates from private, federal, state and university-funded sources. The eligibility requirements for each scholarship vary.  Criteria for merit-based scholarships include academic achievement, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, awards, and honors. Students with GPAs from 2.0 to 2.9 are also encouraged to apply.

Autobiographical Sketch Submission:

On a separate sheet of paper, please provide a personal statement highlighting any exceptional skills, talents and/or abilities that you will bring to the university. Also include your future plans and a list your community service, extracurricular activities, awards, honors, leadership experience or any other significant commitments such as employment and/or hobbies. Please provide two (2) separate letters of recommendation from a teacher, employer, or an adult (non-relative) who knows you well. Provide a copy of the recommendation form to each person writing a letter. Letters must be received by the application deadline.

Presidential Scholarship:

Applicant Criteria for consideration:

• Georgia resident, graduating from a Georgia high school;

• Incoming freshman (first term of college enrollment after graduating from high school);

• 3.50 cumulative high school grade point average (G.P.A.) or higher;

• 1250 SAT (combined math and critical reading) score or higher; or, 28 ACT composite score or higher; and,

• Significant history of leadership and/or volunteer service activities.

(These criteria are used only to determine eligibility and do not guarantee that the student will be selected either for further consideration or as a Presidential Scholarship recipient.)

Nomination:

Receive nomination from their high school [chief academic officer, guidance counselor, or an official school designee].

(They can also be nominated by a representative from a home school entity or non-profit educational organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged high school students with the college search process; and,

Submit Application:

Submit a complete Presidential Scholarship application packet.

Interview:

Interview with Presidential Scholarship Committee, if selected as a semi-finalist.

 

 If selected to receive a private scholarship, a student must prepare a Scholarship Thank You Letter and have it validated by the University's Stewardship Coordinator BEFORE receiving the scholarship award.

Savannah State University - General Scholarships:

 

Alice and Elaine Ward Endowment Scholarship: 

The Scholarship Committee may award the scholarship based on the criteria of the general Savannah State University scholarship program.

AT&T Foundation Computer Technology and Computer Information Systems Scholarship:

 Student must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree program.

• Student must have a minimum of a 2.8 GPA.

• Demonstrate the highest levels of character, citizenship and service.

• Complete a scholarship application.

• Be a student in the College of Science and Technology.

• Adhere to policies of the university.

• Discretion will be given to the scholarship selection committee to make the selection from any student at SSU meeting the previous criteria.

 

Attorney Howard E. Ails Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Student must be an entering freshman and enroll as a full time student. Student must express an interest in pursuing a career in law.

 Student must meet regular admission eligibility requirements established by Savannah State University.

 Students must have achieved a minimum cumulative 2.8 grade point average in high school.

 Students must adhere to policies set forth by Savannah State University and remain in good standing.

 Scholarships of up to $1,250.00 per semester may be awarded as funds are available.

 

Barbara Jean Smith Curry Scholarship Fund:

• Recipient shall be a full time student and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 collegiate scale.

• Recipient shall be a native of Savannah, Georgia

• Recipient(s) shall demonstrate good character and adhere to all rules and regulations of the university.

 

The Benjamin and Nadine Lewis Student Fund Scholarship:

This scholarship shall be awarded to a student that is a full-time undergraduate student pursuing any major. Maintains a 2.0 or better GPA

Benjamin Polite, Jr. Pharmaceutical Scholarship:

High school graduate with ≥ 2.0 GPA; 3 character references; Business/Marketing major; Pursuing pharmaceutical sales; Work Study student; Community and Campus Service; Maintain 3.0 GPA for each scholarship year.

Blaylock Dolphin Project Scholarship:

The scholarship must be given to a student with a major in the Marine Science Program.

Camilia and Zach Hubert Foundation Scholarship:

Full-time entering freshman; student must have a verified financial need, demonstrate good character and have a good record of campus and/or community service. Hancock County, GA resident; if no Hancock county resident is eligible for scholarship, aid can be provided to a student from one of an adjacent county.

CESTA Scholarship:

A high school senior, or college student who have completed the freshman year or rising junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering or computer science.

* High academic achievers in chemistry or science.

* Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average

* Willing to participate in NASA related research while finishing their undergraduate degree and

earning their M.S.

Charles Alston Scholarship:

Must be a student of the School of Sciences and Technology who have demonstrated outstanding scholastic attainment in the sciences

 

Cliett Family Scholarship:

1. Student must be enrolled at Savannah State University and be a full-time student.

2. Student must meet the SSU regular admissions requirements

3. Student must demonstrate a commitment to service to the community either through prior involvement or demonstrated intent.

4. Student must have a minimum of a 2.8 GPA if an entering freshman from high school or a 3.0 GPA if already a student at SSU.

5. Preference will be given to students with a demonstrated need; however, discretion will be given to the scholarship selection committee to make the selection from any student at SSU meeting the previous criteria.

 Connor's Temple Baptist Church Endowed Scholarship Fund:      

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

Crowns on Parade Book Scholarship:

David Roberson Scholarship Endowment:

This scholarship shall be awarded to a student that is enrolled on a full-time basis in an undergraduate course of study with a 3.0 GPA.

Deans Scholarship School of Business:   

Applicant must be a school of business student. The applicant must have a SAT score of a least 850. The applicant must have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Applicant must have a college GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Savannah Alumnae Chapter Endowed Scholarship:      

 Scholarships are to be awarded to full time undergraduate students based on academic merit as determined by the Program Administrator and financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

Dixie Crystal Scholarship:

 All applicants must be United States citizens who have resided in Chatham County for at least one year prior to consideration by the Scholarship Committee, and who demonstrate a financial need for scholarship aid.

 Applicants must score at least 800 or above on the SAT, or 18 or above on the ACT or such equivalent tests as may be later substituted for said tests by school authorities and approved by the Scholarship Committee.

The Scholarship Committee shall give weight to applicant's demonstration of leadership in extracurricular activities and to remain qualified, a scholarship recipient must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale or above during the first 15 hours of college course work and thereafter must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale or above in their course work.

Connor's Temple Baptist Church Endowed Scholarship Fund:

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

Dr. Clyde W. Hall Endowed Scholarship "Donor Criteria for Scholarship:

  • Recipient must be a full-time student majoring in Engineering Technology.
  • Student recipient must have a grade point average of 2.5 and has accumulated between 30 and 60 semester hours.
  • No repeating scholarship recipient.
  • Recipient must send a letter of acknowledgment to donor with a copy to the scholarship office, immediately after the scholarship award is made.
  • Scholarship recipient will be selected by the Scholarship Committee.
  • Recipient must be a resident of the State of Georgia.
  • Recipient must be an African-American to be eligible for this scholarship.
  • Recipient must demonstrate good character and adhere to all university rules and regulations.

 

The Dr. Daniel L. Washington Endowed Scholarship Fund:

This fund will provide a source of major financial assistance to students demonstrating academic excellence.

Dr. K. B. Raut Scholarship Fund :

Applicant must be Chemistry major. The department head of Chemistry along with the Chemistry Faculty will select a student based on the criteria developed by the donor and the University's scholarship committee.

 

Dr. Leo Richardson Endowed Athletic Scholarship:

The endowment is to be administered in accordance with the following conditions:

1. Awards shall be made in the name of the Dr. Leo Richardson Endowed Athletic Scholarship;

2. Recipient(s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 collegiate scale;

3. Awards are renewable as long as the student(s) achieves a GPA of > 3.00 in the award semester(s).

4. Recipient(s) shall best exemplify the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership and community service.

5. Savannah State University's Scholarship Committee shall receive/review Athletic Director recommendations prior to selecting student-athlete recipient(s), with preference given to members of football and/or basketball team(s).

6. In the event that the Scholarship Committee cannot find a student who meets the criteria set forth above, the Committee can choose any student from the state of Georgia who will be matriculating at Savannah State University.

Dr. Phyllis W. Anderson Scholarship:

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

EEOC Endowed Scholarship Program:

Colleges administer the scholarship program according to their own policies within the guidelines established by GM and the EEOC. Scholarships are restricted to students in undergraduate programs unless otherwise noted.

 

Erma Jean Mobley Scholarship:

Full-time student with GPA of 3.0

Student demonstrates a commitment to community and campus service.

Applicant must have a financial need.

Evelyn Brown Clarke Memorial Endowed Scholarship:

 Student must be enrolled as a full time student

 Student must meet regular admission eligibility requirements established by Savannah State University

 Student must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student must maintain a “”B"" average during the academic year

• Student may be asked to attend annual fundraiser in NY with authorized university official at no personal cost

First Bryan Baptist Church Memorial Scholarship Fund:

First priority will be given to students who are members of First Bryan Baptist Church. Second priority will be given to any African-American undergraduate student(s) enrolled at Savannah State University majoring in math, science, or business administration. Scholarships will be based on financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and a minimal 3.0 Grade Point Average on a 4 point scale. Recipient(s) must be a full-time student(s), and he or she must demonstrate good character and adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by Savannah State University.

Frank Richard Spencer Scholarship Fund:

To be determined by the President of Savannah State University

General Motors Corporation/EEOC:

Designated for minorities and women with a preference to GM dependents;

limited to $2,000.00 per year.

GENERAL SCIENTIFIC CORPORATION SCHOLARSHIP:

• The student must be a Georgia resident for purposes of tuition and fees.

• The student must be a graduate of a regionally accredited high school.-

• The student must satisfy the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) course of study.

• The student must have an 850 SAT score with not less than 340 on the verbal section and 450 on the mathematics section. Equivalent ACT scores are acceptable. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

• The student must be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 15 credit hours.

• The student must be enrolled in the School of Sciences & Technology, preferably majoring in Electronics Engineering.

• The student must submit a completed Scholarship Application; two letters of recommendation; one letter must be from a former high school teacher. The application deadline is set and announced by the Scholarship Committee. Applications are available in the Office of Development.

• Applications should be submitted to the Selection Committee by March 1.

• Final selection will be made by the Selection Committee Chairperson and the CEO of General Scientific Corp. in the event a consensus is not reached by the Selection Committee.

• The Award will be announced at Honors Convocation each year.

 

Georgia State College Alumni Endowed Scholarship:

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

Gulfstream Management Association :

Applicant must be currently enrolled as a full time student or must have been accepted by the college on a regular basis. Freshmen applicants must have an SAT score of at least 900 and a high school grade point average of at least 3.00 ("B"). Freshmen candidates should include a high school transcript with their application and their application must be signed by their school counselor. Students beyond the freshman year should have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 ("B") and must include a copy of their college transcript. The applicant should be of good moral character and be an active participant in civic and/or extra-curricular activities. The recipient will be expected to remain a full time student and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00.

Henry Donner Scholarship Fund:

To provide a fund of $10,000 for needy and eligible students in the Division of Social Sciences

Hill Hall Scholarship:

• Student must be enrolled at Savannah State University and be a full-time student.

• Student must meet the SSU regular admissions requirements

• Student must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

• Discretion will be given to the scholarship selection committee to make the selection from any student at SSU meeting the previous criteria.

Horace Polite Vision of Excellence Scholarship:

3.0 GPA; renewable as long as the student(s) maintains a 3.0 GPA. Demonstrates the strongest financial need, exemplifies leadership skills, active in church or community service. Preference given to inner city or rural students from homes in which the father was absent due to death, divorce, incarceration, illegitimacy or abandonment.

Howard E. Alls Memorial Scholarship Fund:

High School Graduate with a 2.8 GPA; Applicant must be a freshman and Full-time;

James H. Porter Academic Scholarship:

The James H. Porter Scholarship provides financial assistance to students attending Albany State University, Fort Valley State University and Savannah State University. Awards are anywhere from $1,000.00 - $5,000.00 annually.

The scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students matriculating at SSU.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be a Georgia Resident

Undergraduates

•Must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours)

•Students with no previous college credit (freshman) must have an SAT (critical reading and mathematics) of 1000 or higher  or ACT composite of 21 or higher and a high school GPA in academic subjects of 3.0 or better.

•Students with prior college experience must meet freshman requirements and have a college GPA of 3.3 or better.

Graduates

•Must be enrolled full-time (at least 6 credit hours)

•Must have a minimum undergraduate GPA 3.3 or higher

•Must have a minimum score of 1100 (verbal and quantitative) or higher on the GRE or; 500 or higher on the GMAT or; meet program admission test score requirements

Awards are limited to four years (undergraduate) and two years (graduate).  Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher and re-apply annually.

JIMMIE C. DOUGLAS SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND:

 Recipient(s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 or higher on a 4.00 collegiate scale:

• Recipient(s) shall demonstrate the strongest financial need, and best exemplify the qualities of leadership and/or sportsmanship, and community service;

• Savannah State University's Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient, with preference given to residents of Jenkins County, Millen, Ga.;

• In the event that the Scholarship Committee cannot find a student who meets the criteria set forth above, the Committee can choose any student from the state of Georgia who will be matriculating at Savannah State University.

Jolly L. Stephens Football Scholarship Endowment:

Awards shall be made in the name of the Jolly L. Stephens Football Scholarship Endowment

• Recipient(s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.20 on a 4.00 collegiate scale;

• Awards are renewable as long as the student(s) achieves a GPA of 2.20 in the award semester(s).

   Recipient(s) shall best exemplify the qualities of leadership and/or sportsmanship, and community service.  

   Savannah State University's Athletic Department shall select the recipient, with preference given to Head Football Coach's recommendation and Director of Athletics approval.

 

Judge Eugene Gadsen Scholarship:

Applicant must be a sophomore or above; must have greater than a 3.0 GPA. Major in pre-law, political science or major involving law or government. Award is funded by the Port City Bar Association

Kandel-Paddison Scholarship Award:

Phillippa K. and John Robert Paddison have arranged for an annual $1,000.00 scholarship to be awarded to a student at Savannah State College. The award is for one year and is intended to assist a deserving student continuing his or her education at the college. A recipient is expected to have maintained an overall “B” or equivalent grade-point average at the time of the award, although the Committee may waive this requirement under extraordinary circumstances.

 

KERMIT  0. KEMP MATHEMATICS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:

Full-time student pursuing a degree in mathematics;

African American male or female;

Cum GPA of 2.5 - 3.0.

Kirbo-Conyers Endowed Scholarship:

Scholarships will be awarded in the Fall and Spring semesters. -The maximum disbursement per individual per semester is $500.00 from the interest/investment income available. The Recipient will be notified of the award by the Office of Financial Aid, during the month of July for the Fall award, and the month of November for the Spring award.

Mario de La Guardia Freshmen Scholarship:

• Two scholarships at $750.00 per scholarship are awarded annually.

• Restricted to entering freshmen who must have a minimum G. P. A. of 3.0 and a minimum SAT score of 800.

• The scholarship will be awarded for four consecutive years provided the C. P. A. is maintained at 3.0.

• The scholarship will be terminated at the end of the academic year that the G. P. A. is allowed to drop below 3.0. In such case, the scholarship will be awarded to an entering freshman who meets the above criteria.

• All eligible students will be given equal consideration for the award regardless of age, nationality, race, religion or creed.

Mary Clay Torian Scholarship:

Applicant must have a high school 3.0 GPA; SAT of 1,000 or greater or ACT of 19 or greater; submit a completed application, a transcript, and two letters of recommendation. Must attain and maintain a 3.0 GPA at SSU.

 

MARY EVANS ROBERTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:

• Entering college Freshman (Must be a Beach High School graduate)

• The student must have a 2.8 or above high school GPA and maintain a 28 or above college GPA.

• The student must be full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours per quarter.

• U S Citizen, Male or Female.

• Pursuing a baccalaureate degree (Preferably in Humanities).

• The student is required to submit a thank you letter to the Estate of the Late Mary Evans Roberts as well as Rev. Enoch Roberts to 1830 Stuyvesant Street, Savannah, GA 31405.

MATTIE BEVERLY PAYNE ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP:   

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

Melissa Ilugbo Memorial Endowment:  

The scholarship will be awarded using the guidelines set by the scholarship committee.

 Michael K. Maher Scholarship:  

 Must be a Sophomore or above

 Presently enrolled at Savannah State University

 Cumulative grade point average of 2.76 or above

 Must submit a letter of recommendation from his or her teacher or department head.

 must write a letter of appreciation to the Links, Inc., Savannah Chapter, upon receipt of the scholarship.

NFL/NFL Players Association Scholarship Program:

• Be enrolled in a 4-year fully accredited historically black college or university (HBCU)

• have a minimum grade point average of 3.0

• be a junior, male or female

• have an unmet financial need, based on submission of a financial aid application

• submit an official transcript

• submit two letters of recommendation, at least one from a faculty member, describing the student's potential for this award.

 

NROTC National Scholarship Midshipmen:

Students that are Four-Year National NROTC Scholarship recipients (BOOST or National Competition) and not receiving other substantial financial assistance - Porter Scholarship or equivalent.

NuStar Energy L.P. Endowment Scholarship:

"Awards shall be made in the name of the NuStar Energy L.P. Endowment Scholarship;

1. Recipient(s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of > 2.50, with requirement of 3.00 to renew on a 4.00 collegiate scale;

2. Awards are renewable as long as the student(s) achieves a GPA of 3.00 in the award semester(s);

3. Recipient(s) shall demonstrate a strong financial need and a commitment to community service;

4. Savannah State University's Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient(s), with preference given to those pursuing a degree in business administration, engineering and other sciences; and

5. In the event that the Scholarship Committee cannot find a student who meets the criteria set forth above, the Committee can choose any student from the state of Georgia who will be matriculating at Savannah State University.

 

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Endowed Scholarship:

Funded Annually, Minimum 2.5 CPA Requirements and must be a full time student, Students receiving this scholarship should demonstrate good character, leadership and community service while adhering to all the rules and regulations of the University.

Ophelia Silver & Wilhelmina Small Scholarship Fund:

Full-time student with GPA ≥ 3.0; demonstrates a community commitment to service. Preference to Social Science majors.

Parnell M. Jones Scholarship:     

Entering freshman with 3.0 High School GPA and combined SAT of 800. Adhere to SSU guidelines, rules, and regulations.

Pei-Ling Chan Award Scholarship:

• The student must be enrolled in a Developmental Studies mathematics course, either Math 97 or Math 98

• The student must have perfect attendance of the enrolled Developmental Studies math course;

• The student must exit the Developmental Studies math course

• The student must attend full-time at Savannah State College.

 

Personal & Academic Excellence Award:

This scholarship shall be awarded to a student that is graduating and receiving a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Health, Social Science, or Pure Science.

 

Phineas L. Roberts Memorial Scholarship:

Any high school senior with a 3.0 grade point average or above planning to attend Savannah State College and major in the biological sciences may apply for the scholarship.

 

Professor Norman B. Elmore Scholarship:

 Recipient should be a full time student pursuing a degree in Humanities or Fine Arts.

• It is important that the recipient is an African American male

• Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

The Links Inc., Savannah Chapter:

 Must be a Sophomore or above

 Presently enrolled at Savannah State University

 Cumulative grade point average of 2.76 or above

 Must submit a letter of recommendation from his or her teacher or department head.

 must write a letter of appreciation to the Links, Inc., Savannah Chapter, upon receipt of the scholarship.

 

Rosenzweig Scholarship Fund:

The scholarship will be awarded using the guidelines set by the scholarship committee.

 

Sadie Lewis Cartledge Student Fund:

Applicant must have a financial need.

 

Samuel L. and Weorsie Bowers Smith:

Full-time student with GPA of 3.0; Community and Campus Service; Applicant must have a financial need.

 

Sarah Mills Hodge Memorial Scholarship:

  The Sarah Mills Hodge Memorial Scholarships are to be awarded for scholastic merit as the College may determine.

  Recipients, however, must maintain a 3.0 or better grade point average during the period for which the scholarship is awarded.

  The scholarships are to be restricted to students who are, and have been, living in Chatham County for at least the previous full year.

  A scholarship, once granted, shall ordinarily in succeeding years receive priority for renewal over any new application so long as it is scholastically merited.

  The intent being that there is value in the continuance of a scholarship through the granting of a degree.

 

Savannah Chapter- SSU National Alumni Association Endowment Fund:

Awards shall be made in the name of the Savannah Chapter-SSU National Alumni Association

2. Recipient(s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least (> 2.5 for merit based, otherwise could be any GPA > 2.5, with requirement of 2.5 to renew) on a 4.00 collegiate scale;

3. Awards are renewable as long as the student(s) achieves a GPA of > 2.50 in the award semester(s).

4. Scholarship award to be used for tuition or books only.

5. Recipient(s) shall demonstrate the strongest financial need.

6. Savannah State University's Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient, with preference given to students who are residents of Chatham County, Georgia.

7. In the event that the Scholarship Committee cannot find a student who meets the criteria set forth above or the funds are not used by the student during the semester awarded, the funds will be returned to the endowment account.

 

Savannah Foods/Chatham Foundation Scholarship:

 All applicants must be a U.S. citizen who are at risk and reside in Chatham County.

• All applicants must be a resident of Chatham County for at least a year prior to consideration for the Dixie Crystals Scholarship.

• Students must earn a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale if they accept the Dixie Crystals Scholarship upon graduation from high school.

• Students must earn a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale if they accept the Dixie Crystals Scholarship after completing 15 hours of college course work at Savannah State College.

• Students must graduate in the top 25% of their graduating class.

• The SAT score must be 800 and above, the ACT score must be 18 and above. -Students must demonstrate a financial need.

• Leadership in extracurricular activities will be a factor in the evaluation process.

 

Savannah Jaycees Scholarship:

Applicant must be enrolled with a minimum of nine hours; must have and maintain ≥ 3.0 GPA; must be a Chatham County resident having graduated from the Chatham County school System.

Savannah Morning News Endowed Scholarship: 

Application procedures will follow the University's Scholarship Committee Guidelines and the criteria of the Mass Communications Program for said award.

Savannah State University Athletic Scholarship Campaign:

Entering Freshman with 3.0 High School GPA and combined SAT of 800. Adhere to SSU guidelines, rules, and regulations.

Savannah State University General Academic Scholarship:

Applicant must be enrolled with a minimum of nine hours; must have and maintain ≥ 3.0 GPA; must be a Chatham County resident having graduated from the Chatham County school System.

Smith - Gunter Endowed Scholarship      

Must be a full time student, maintain a minimum 3.00 CPA, student must have a verified financial need, student should demonstrate good character and have a record of campus and/or community service.

SSU Athletics Endowment Fund:

"The Fund is to be administered in accordance with the following conditions:

1. Awards shall be made in the name of the SSU Athletics Endowment;

2. Recipient(s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 for the initial award; on a 4.00 collegiate scale;

3. Awards are renewable as long as the student(s) achieves a GPA of 3.0 during the semester in which the initial award was received and maintains a GPA of 3.0 thereafter;

4. Recipient(s) shall demonstrate the strongest financial need, and best exemplify the qualities of leadership and community service.

5. Savannah State University's Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient, with preference given to athletic scholars.

6. In the event that the Scholarship Committee cannot find a student who meets the criteria set forth above, the Committee can choose any student athlete who will be matriculating at Savannah State University.

SSU Band Campaign Scholarship:

Student must be enrolled at Savannah State University and be a full-time studen:

• Student must meet the SSU regular admissions requirements

• Student must complete the FAFSA.

• Student must have full involvement in the SSU band program.

• SSU Director of Band may recommend student(s).

• Discretion will be given to the scholarship selection committee to make the selection from any student at SSU meeting the stated criteria.

SSU National Alumni Endowment:

The funds in this account are designated to individuals as student aid. These are funds donated by individuals, companies, civic organization, church groups, or other groups for the purpose of providing student aid to designated individuals. These funds are classified as "agency scholarships" because the donor, not the institution, reserves the right to select the person receiving the award.

 

The Alfred E. Beach Scholarship:

The recipient(s) maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. A copy of semester grades is requested by the Committee.

 

The American Public Works Association Scholarship:

1. Recipients must be majoring in civil engineering, public and urban affairs, or public administration.

2. Recipients must be full time undergraduate or graduate.

3. Recipients must be in final year of course work.

4. Recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic merit and financial need.

The Attorney Howard E. Ails Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Student must be an entering freshman and enroll as a full time student. Student must express an interest in pursuing a career in law.

Student must meet regular admission eligibility requirements established by Savannah State University.

Students must have achieved a minimum cumulative 2.8 grade point average in high school.

Students must adhere to policies set forth by Savannah State University and remain in good standing.

Scholarships of up to $1,250.00 per semester may be awarded as funds are available.

The Benjamin Polite, Jr. Pharmaceutical Scholarship:

• Be a recent high school graduate

• Possess a cumulative grade point average of a “C”

• Provide three reputable characters references

• Agree to major in Business or Marketing

• Agree to pursue a career in Pharmaceutical Sales

• Participate in a Work Study Program to supplement the scholarship award

• Maintain a cumulative grade point average of a “B” for each scholarship year

• Demonstrate interpersonal skills as evidenced by active affiliation and participation in various schools and or community organizations

The Bernard J. Walker Scholarship Fund:               

• Student must be a full time student at Savannah State University.

• Student must be involved in music activities and a member of the Savannah State University Marching Band.

• Student must have a 3.0 GPA.

The Deonino Iocovozzi Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Applicant must be a student majoring in Political Science and rank, academically, in the upper twenty-five percent (25%) of their class.

The economic condition of students meeting the criterion shall be taken into consideration, with preference being given to those students in the lower economic levels.

The Donnie Emaryanay Cochran Personal Excellence Scholarship:

Student must enter freshman year as a Full time student with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

THE DR. ANNETTE K. BROCK SCHOLARSHIP:

Student must be enrolled in 12 per semester. a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

 

THE DR. ANNETTE K. BROCK SCHOLARSHIP:

• The student must be full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.

• Students must be high academic achievers in chemistry or science.

• Have a minimum 3.0 college GPA.

• Willing to participate on NASA related research while finishing their undergraduate degree and earning their M.S.

THE DR. PHYLLIS WYNN ANDERSON MUSIC AWARD:

• Be enrolled as a sophomore or above;

• Major or minor in music, instrument or voice;

• Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or above;

• Audition with two contrasting selections before the donor or designee, two other faculty members and a brief interview.

• Receive $500 per year.

The Eldred Black Endowed Memorial Scholarship:

To be eligible for this award a student must:

• Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a four point scale

• Be enrolled as a full time student in a degree program

• Complete a scholarship application

• Adhere to the policies of the university

• Demonstrate the highest levels of character, citizenship and service

The Erma Jean Mobley Scholarship:

Full time student, Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average Requirement, demonstrates financial need (1st generation low income student), student should demonstrate Good Character and be an upward bound student.

THE EVANELL TERRELL SCHOLARSHIP FUND:

• Awardee must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

• Awardee must substantiate financial need.

• Awards will be in the amounts of $50.00 or $100.00 according to student's need.

The First African Baptist Church Revolving Loan Fund Scholarship:

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

The Georgia Foundation for Independent Colleges Scholarship:

An applicant must be a U.S. citizen and resident of Georgia. He or she must be a current, full-time student in good standing at one of the four-year institutions on the attached list and must qualify as a rising senior by the beginning of the regular academic year of 1996-97 for which he/she is being considered. The student must be concentrating in one of the following areas of study: Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or Business. The student should have an expressed desire or intention to remain in Georgia after graduation.

The Gladys Lambert Endowed Scholarship:

• Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a four-point scale.

• Be enrolled as a full time student in a degree program.

• Be an African American and have a clear financial need.

• Complete a scholarship application.

• Adhere to all the policies of the university.

• Demonstrate the highest levels of character, citizenship and service to the community

The Golden Class of 1946 Scholarship Endowment Fund:

The income from the principal shall be used to present a scholarship(s) for one academic year at a time, to a student(s) without regard to age, sex, race, physical handicaps, national origins or religious beliefs.

The Horace Magwood Jr. General Scholarship:

• Student must be a native of Savannah Georgia.

• Student must maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA on a four-point scale.

• Student must be a full time student in a degree program.

• Student must adhere to all policies and procedures of the university and remain in good standing.

• Student must demonstrate the highest level of character, citizenship and service.

 

The James Jimmy Brown Endowed Scholarship:

First priority will be given to students from Jefferson County, Florida, Madison County, Florida, and Colleton County, South Carolina. Second priority will be given to students from Fulton County, Georgia and Chatham County, Georgia. Award will be based on financial need & 3.0 Grade Point Average, Recipient must be a full time student, Student must be a citizen of the USA, and all students receiving this scholarship must demonstrate good character and adhere to all university rules and regulations.

The James M. Simms Prince Hall Masonic Endowed Scholarship:

Scholarships are to be awarded to full time undergraduate students based on academic merit as determined by the Program Administrator and financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

The John W. McGlockton Scholarship:

The John W. McGlockton Scholarship will be awarded annually to a qualified Savannah State College student who has met the following criteria:

(a) matriculation as a regular, full-time student;

(b) a grade point average of 3.0 or its equivalent;

(c) in a degree program which culminates in awarding a Baccalaureate degree.

The Josephine France Hubert Endowed Scholarship:

•Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a four point scale

•Be enrolled as a full time student in a degree program

•Be a student in the College of Business

•Student must have a clear financial need

•Complete a scholarship application

•Adhere to the policies of the university

•Demonstrate the highest levels of character, citizenship and service

The Judge Eugene H, Gadsden Scholarship:

The student shall be a full-time student

The student shall be an undergraduate student at the sophomore level or above.

Financial need will be considered, but will not be the primary factor in awarding the scholarship.

The student must have a GPA of 3.0 or above

The student must be a United States citizen

The student must major in pre-law, political science or some related civic type major involving the law or government.

The scholarship is for one year only

A student will be considered for renewal of the scholarship on the same basis as any other applicant.

The Kandel Paddison Scholarship Award

This award is for one year and is intended to assist a deserving student continuing his or her education at Savannah State University. Recipients are expected to have maintained an overall “B” or equivalent grade-point average at the time of the award.

The Katherine Sanford Toler Endowed Scholarship Fund

•Student must be a full time student at Savannah State University.

•Student must be pursuing a major in the College of Sciences and Technology.

•Student must maintain a ""B"" average while pursuing the degree.

The Leonard Jenkins, Jr. Book Fund

Student must be accepted to Savannah State University as a regular student in a degree program. Students enrolled in remedial course work are not eligible. Student must have a demonstrated need for financial aid as determined by the College's Office of Financial Aid. Student must be enrolled as a full-time student if either currently enrolled or a transfer student, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale if entering freshmen, have a predictive grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and must maintain a 3.2 grade point average to qualify for future awards.

The Links Inc., Savannah Chapter:

Must be a sophomore or above

Presently enrolled at Savannah State University

Cumulative grade point average of 2.76 or above

Must submit a letter of recommendation from his or her teacher or department head.

must write a letter of appreciation to the Links, Inc., Savannah Chapter, upon receipt of the scholarship.

The Louis Scott Stell Student Assistance Fund:

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

The Mark C. Clayton-Kappa Alpha Psi Endowed Scholarship:

Student must be a US Citizen,

Minimum CPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

African American, Full Time Student

Students receiving this scholarship should demonstrate:Good Character and Service.

Must be in good standings with the university, classified as a junior and must complete an application.

THE McDUFFIE SCHOLARSHIP AND LOAN FOUNDATION:                

•The applicant must have a 2.5 cumulative average or better.

•The applicant shall have a score of 750 or better on the SAT.

 (Any combination of the SAT taken from January 1 of the junior year to December 31 of the senior year.)

•First priority shall be given to an entering freshman. In the event a freshman applicant does not meet the established criteria, an upperclassman may be nominated to the college.

The Nelson Roscoe Freeman Student Loan Scholarship Fund:

•Have a 2.8 GPA or above on a four point scale to qualify

•Be enrolled as a full time student in a degree program

•Complete a scholarship application

•Adhere to all the policies of the university

•Demonstrate the highest levels of character, citizenship and community service

The Pathway to Dreams Scholarship:

Student must be a Full time Semester Freshman or a first time, second Semester Sophomore. GPA requirement minimum of at least 2.7, Student Demonstrates Financial Need, and Student Should Demonstrate Good Character

The Robert L. and Charlease Thomas Stevenson Scholarship:

•Remain active in The Players by the Sea theatre organization

•Be an African American

•Maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA on a four point scale

•Be a full time student

•Meet all stipulations of the scholarship

THE S. C. CHAN FUND SCHOLARSHIP:

A full time student at Savannah State University enrolled for a college degree.

•A student must have completed a minimum of two years college courses.

•A student must major in an approved program seeking a degree in the College of Business.

•A student with a grade point average of 3.25 or better

The Savannah Chapter of the Links, Inc. Endowed Scholarship:

Awarded Annually, Student must maintain a 3.0 CPA. Recipient must be a Full Time Student; Students receiving this scholarship should demonstrate Good Character Leadership, have a record of Community Service and adhere to all rules and regulations on student behavior of the University. Recipients must be a resident of the Links service area which includes Savannah/Chatham Counties, Georgia and Jasper/Beaufort Counties. South Carolina. Recipient must be a sophomore or above and have a verified financial need to receive this scholarship.

The Savannah Morning News Endowed Scholarship :

Provide a source of major financial aid to student(s) demonstrating academic excellence and financial need who is(are) enrolled in the University's Mass Communications Program;

Students in the print journalism concentration will have first preference for scholarship awards

The Sickle Cell Association of Savannah, Inc., Endowed Scholarship:

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed. Scholarship shall be to award those clients who are achievers and who pursue a degree from Savannah State University with a $1,000 scholarship.

The Thelma Harmond Scholarship:

Student must be a College sophomore and have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Major in Business Education or Business Administration. Student must also show evidence of financial need.

THE TOMPKINS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1964 SCHOLARSHIP:

Recipients must demonstrate a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and preference will be given to students of African-American descent. Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

The W. W. Law Athletic Scholarship Fund:

The student athlete must:

• be a sophomore, junior, or senior

• have a GPA of 3.0 or better

• exemplify good character and sportsmanship

• contribute documented service to the community

• be an outstanding participant in one of the major sports activities

• be recommended by the coaching staff in his/her sport of specialty

The Wellington D. Swindall Endowed Book Scholarship Fund:

Awards shall be made in the name of The Wellington D. Swindall Endowed Book Scholarship Fund and may be awarded to one or more students in any given year

The William Thomas Ewing Endowed Scholarship:

Scholarship will be funded annually. Specific grade point average requirements are not required, other than the recipient remains a full time student in good standing in accordance with the requirements of the University; and that students receiving this Scholarship should demonstrate financial need and good character.

Thelma Harmond Scholarship Association:

College Sophomore with 3.0 GPA or above, majoring in business education or business administration; demonstrate financial need.

Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund:

Complete online application and submit a 500-word essay along with High school or current college transcript, resume, and at least one letter of recommendation at www.thurgoodmarshallfund.org.

Tom Joyner Foundation Endowment Scholarship:

Scholarship committee will determine how scholarship is disbursed.

 

Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.:  

Full-time student pursuing a baccalaureate degree, Savannah resident

Presently enrolled at Savannah State University or a returning junior or senior

Cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or above for new recipients

Must Maintain a 3.0 GPA for renewal (open to competition)

Awarded based on the basis of scholastic (achievement), extracurricular involvement in college and community related activities.

Priority given to science or business majors however other qualified applicants may apply.

University Financing Foundation Endowed Scholarship:

The scholarship will be awarded using the guidelines set by the scholarship committee. , The University Financing Foundation (TUFF) is pleased to provide a gift to the Savannah State University Foundation (SSUF).  The recipients will be designated as TUFF Scholars.

 

Vermont Law School Graduate & Professional Scholarship:

Full-time student with GPA of 3.0; Community and Campus Service; Applicant must demonstrates academic excellence and have a financial need;

Wesley Family Scholarship for Academic Excellence:

1. Awards shall be made in the name of the "Wesley Family Scholarship for Academic Excellence"

2. Recipient(s) shall have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 for merit based with requirement of 3.0 to renew on a 4.00 collegiate scale;

3. Awards are renewable as long as the student(s) achieves a GPA of > 3.00 in the award semester(s).

4. Recipient(s) shall demonstrate the strongest financial need, and best exemplify the qualities of leadership and/or sportsmanship, and community service. First time applicants will be required to submit an essay stating their life goals and how the scholarship will assist them in meeting their goals.

5. Savannah State University's Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient, with preference given to students who are African American, have at least one semester of college level courses with a major in math, social work or business.

William "Bill" Davis Endowed Memorial Scholarship:

• Student must be an entering freshman with an economic need

• Student must participate in the football program

• Student must have a minimum of 2.8 GPA

• The student must have demonstrated good citizenship while in high school

• Student must provide documentation of community involvement

• Student may retain scholarship throughout his matriculation if he maintains a minimum of 2.8, adheres to the policies and procedures for students at the university and plays football

William E. Gardner Scholarship Endowment Fund:      

• A native of the Caribbean Islands

• A full time student enrolled in the Georgia Tech Regional Engineering Program (GTREP) or computer sciences

• Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Willie R. (Bill) Ingram Jr. Endowment Scholarship:

A minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average is Required, Recipient must be a Full Time Student, and Students receiving this scholarship should demonstrate Good Character, adhere to all university rules and guidelines, major in Chemistry.

The William Thomas Ewing Endowed Scholarship:

Scholarship will be funded annually. Specific grade point average requirements are not required, other than the recipient remains a full time student in good standing in accordance with the requirements of the University; and that students receiving this Scholarship should demonstrate financial need and good character.

Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Georgia Foundation:

This scholarship shall be awarded to a student that is a resident of Georgia and enrolled on a full-time basis in an undergraduate course of study. The scholarship will cover full tuition and fees for the forthcoming academic year.
