Dr. Tara Cox, Regents' Professor of Marine Sciences
Dr. Tara Cox is a distinguished Regents’ Professor of Marine Sciences at Savannah State University and an internationally recognized expert in marine mammal ecology, conservation biology, and coastal resource management. A leading scholar in her field, Dr. Cox has authored more than 35 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has secured competitive research funding from organizations including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Her research on bottlenose dolphins, harbor porpoises, marine conservation, and human-wildlife interactions has advanced scientific understanding while providing transformative undergraduate and graduate research opportunities. Through her excellence in research, teaching, and mentorship, Dr. Cox has elevated Savannah State University’s national reputation as a leader in marine science education and research.
Dr. Otilia Iancu, Professor of Public Administration
Dr. Otilia Iancu is a distinguished Professor of Public Administration and Chair of the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs at Savannah State University whose expertise in public management, civic leadership, and public policy has strengthened the University’s nationally recognized Master of Public Administration program. An accomplished scholar, mentor, and community leader, Dr. Iancu has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and has earned significant recognition for her contributions to higher education and public service, including the 2026 Liberty Bell Award from the Savannah Bar Association for her commitment to civic engagement and leadership, the 2024 Educator Award from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Savannah State University’s inaugural President’s Faculty Award for Innovation and Excellence. Through her dedication to student success, experiential learning, and public service, she continues to prepare the next generation of government and nonprofit leaders while elevating Savannah State University’s reputation for excellence in public administration education.
