Shuttle & Bus Services
Savannah State University has a contract with Chatham Area Transit (CAT) to provide transportation for our students. The contract is paid for with the Mandatory Transportation fee paid for by students (currently $35 per semester). Students with a valid SSU ID card can ride any regular CAT bus route in the city or county or free (with a small change to the airport) In addition, three routes are specifically designed for SSU students.SSU/CAT U-Pass Transit Program coming soon
On-Campus Shuttle (Route 80)
The on-campus Shuttle runs from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Friday, on class days. There are two shuttles running from 8:15 a.m. until 3:18 p.m., except for a 20 minute break for each driver (one at 11:15 a.m. and one at 1:15 p.m.) when there is one shuttle. Please allow 10-15 minutes during the time there are two shuttles and 20-30 minutes during the time there is one shuttle, depending on weather and traffic on campus.
Shopping Express (Route 170X)
The Shopping Express service (bus 170X) begins on campus at the Tiger Express Diner on the hour, as listed below. The ending hour is the last stop, which is also at the Tiger Express Diner. After the bus leaves campus, it goes to McAlpin Square, where it stops at the bus shelter at the corner of E. Victory Drive and Wallin Street. Near this intersection, you will find Kroger, U.S. Post Office, Big Lots, and (across the street) Target, Home Depot, and many others. The bus then goes to Oglethorpe Mall, where it stops at the parking deck next to Belk's. From there, the bus goes to Walmart on Montgomery Crossroads, where it stops at the shelter between Walmart and Sam's Club. It is expected to leave this stop at 40 minutes after the hour.
Please remember that you must leave campus at least two hours prior to the end time of the route in order to get off at a stop and have time to shop, then be picked up on the next hour's run to make it back to the University. For example, on Saturday, you must leave no later than 6:00 p.m. so that you can pick up a bus between 7:00 and 7:40 and arrive back to campus at 8:00.
Express Shopping service is offered:

Tuesdays – 12 Noon - 8 PM
Wednesdays - No Service
Thursdays – No Service
