The SSU Women’s Leadership Conference presents the third annual Women’s Conference focusing on women’s health.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, followed by cancer, stroke, suicide and depression and others. This year’s Women Leadership Conference will focus on taking care of yourself – our health is our wealth, it’s the most important asset we own.

The Women’s Leadership Conference will begin with our annual luncheon “Health is Wealth” and community awards.

Our keynote luncheon speaker will be Carolyn Guilford, nutritionist, author, health and wellness consultant

Carolyn Guilford

Nutritionist and Wellness Consultant

Carolyn Guilford

Ms. Carolyn Guilford gives health and wellness presentations and workshops to church and community groups, and for health-aware companies, while continuing to work on research in the areas of health and nutrition. She coaches and consults on healthy lifestyle choices, facilitating change, nutrition for good health, and management of chronic diseases. Working with clients locally and nationally for Health Restoration Consulting in Savannah, Ga a company she founded.

 

In 2016, a new book was penned - "A Question of Health" which is a compilation of many of Carolyn’s answers to readers’ questions - published in her newspaper column ‘Toward True Health" in Savannah, Ga. The column, being published online and in print, captivated audiences across America and beyond, and led to writing, speaking and workshop opportunities in Hilton Head, West Palm Beach, Gatlinburg, New Orleans, Washington, DC, Dover, Delaware.

 


Mei Zhao, Ph.D. and MHA

Professor and Program Director, Master of Health Administration
University of North Florida, USA

Dr. Mei Zhao is the professor of Health Administration and also serves as the director for the Master of Health Administration Program (MHA) at the University of North Florida's (UNF) Brooks College of Health. She received her Ph.D. in health services organization and research from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia and her master degree in health administration from Shandong University, Jinan, China. Her teaching areas include health economics, quantitative analysis in health care, health care finance, and others.

Dr. Zhao has led and participated in several research initiatives, including studies of financial pressures affecting hospital and nursing home quality of care, hospital value-based purchasing, and international health. She has published widely in numerous journals including Inquiry, Health Policy, Health Care Management Review, Health Services Research, and others. Dr. Zhao won the Outstanding International Leadership award due to her great contribution to propelling the University toward internationalization in spring 2009. She was also the recipient of 2010-2011 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Awards at UNF. Because of her great achievements in higher education, she obtained the Outstanding Leadership Education Award in 2012 from Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Zhao was also invited by many universities in China as a visiting scholar. She was also the guest speaker for several universities in Australia in spring 2017.

Dr. Woodard has designed, developed, and facilitated numerous management training, leadership development, succession planning, executive development, and mentoring programs. She has held key leadership roles at Fortune 100 global corporations, large government agencies and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Dr. Woodard is a highly sought after speaker, thought leader, consultant and executive coach.

Due to road work in front of the Student Union building, please use the University Commons entrance on LaRoche Ave. and take the first left to access the parking lot adjacent to the building. You may also enter through the LaRoche gate near the stadium (#24 on campus map) and use other parking lots near the Student Union building.
