Chemistry Program
The chemistry program at SSU has been approved to offer the American Chemical Society (ACS) certified BS degree to students who complete the ACS required curriculum. In addition, we offer BS degrees in chemistry with three options: (1) BS in chemistry (not ACS certified); (2) BS in Chemistry of pre-professional option; and (3) BS in chemistry of teacher certification option. The pre-professional option is for students who intend to pursue medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health professions. The teacher certification option is designed to provide combination of chemistry and education courses for students who prepare to teach chemistry at the high school level. We also offer minors in chemistry (Forensic Science Minor , Chemistry Minor).
The chemistry program has well qualified and dedicated faculty members who enjoy teaching. The program has state-of-art equipment and facilities for learning and research purposes. Our chemistry faculty maintain very active undergraduate research programs.
Mandatory Student Safety Training
All students in chemistry laboratory courses are required to attend online trainings through the website of University System of Georgia, Environmental Health and Safety. Each student should present three certificates of completion at the beginning of each semester.
