Minor in Applied Mathematics

The Minor in Applied Mathematics at SSU offers enhanced upper level math courses with interdisciplinary real world applications.

This minor will be available to all majors at SSU, meaning that all faculty, campus-wide, are participating in interdisciplinary curriculum enhancements, which include these colleges:

College of Sciences and Technology
College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
College of Business Administration

 School of Teacher Education

Other activities will include

  1. Research training in applied math topics for 5 merit scholars/year (all applied math minors), 
  2. Professional Development workshops for faculty
  3. Professional Development for high school teachers

Course Listing

To receive the Minor in Applied Mathematics, students will complete the course requirements outlined below.

At least six credit hours of the following courses:

  1. Math 2111: Calculus II
  2. Math 2121: Calculus III
  3. Math 2201: Introduction to Probabilities and Statistics

At least nine credit hours from the following courses:

  1. Math 3000: Intro. to Biostatistics
  2. Math 3101: Linear Algebra
  3. Math 3301: Differential Equations
  4. Math 3201: Probability and Statistics I
  5. Math 3501: Numerical Analysis
  6. Math 4221: Complex Analysis
  7. Math 4301: Survey of Partial Differential Equations
  8.
