Dr. Smith comes to SSU from Kennesaw State University having served as the Department Chair for Political Science and International Affairs. Dr. Smith balances his academic background with practical experience. He has served on the faculty at Clemson, as a senior budget official in the New York State Division of the Budget working under Governors' Cuomo and Pataki and was a regional director for US Senator and UN Ambassador Daniel Patrick Moynihan.


Research Interests

Dr. Smith's ongoing teaching and research interests are in the areas of administrative leadership and ethics, public budgeting and finance, and civic engagement. He has published in Public Administration Review and Administration and Society and is the co-author of Public Budgeting in America, 5th Edition.
