Nicholas O. Bratcher

Assistant Director of Bands

 

Mr. Nicholas O. Bratcher is a native of Conway, South Carolina, where he attended Horry County public schools.  After graduating Conway High School, where he served as Drum Major, Mr. Bratcher completed two years at South Carolina State University where he served as section leader for the "Marching 101" and principal clarinet of the SCSU Wind Ensemble. He later earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance and a Master of Arts in Music Education from the Coastal Carolina University, where he served as Graduate Assistant to the University Band program. While at CCU, Mr. Bratcher served as principal in several ensembles including the Marching Band and Wind Ensemble. As a graduate assistant, Mr. Bratcher worked with the CCU "Spirit" Marching Band and the basketball pep band, as well as helped coordinate the Summer Music Academy, a music camp serving over 550 high school students each year. In the summer of 2011, Mr. Bratcher will pursue the Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in Music Education with cognates in Conducting from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Bratcher studied instrumental conducting under Dr. Richard Johnson, with additional study under Jerry Junkin, Michael Haithcock, and Dr. Rodney Dorsey. He is highly sought after as an instrumental clinician and adjudicator throughout the southeastern United States. As a musician, he has performed with various wind ensembles and as an orchestral pit musician in several Broadway musicals along the East Coast including “Sweet Charity,” “Dreamgirls,” and "Company" . Bratcher holds membership in Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity Inc., Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity of America, Georgia Music Educators Association and the National Educators Association.
