Dr. Chellu S. Chetty is the Associate Vice President of Research & Sponsored programs and a Distinguished
Professor of Biology at Savannah State University. Currently, he is also directing NIH-funded MBRS and NSF-funded HBCU-UP Programs. Before joining the Savannah State faculty in 1993, Chetty spent five years as a visiting faculty in a collaborative project between University Medical Center, Jackson, MS and Selma University, Selma, AL. He received a
BS degree in biology in 1974 from SV University in Tirupati, India. He received subsequent degrees, MS science in zoology in 1976 and a doctorate in zoology in 1979, also from SV University. Chetty spent the next nine years at his alma mater as an assistant/associate professor, which included a two-year stint as a post-doctoral fellow at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS, from 1982 to 1984. Chetty has earned numerous accolades and awards for his student engagement practices and accomplishments. Chetty has guided 10 doctoral students and has written or co-authored more than 250 professional research articles for publications. More than 80 of these publications include students as co-authors. He developed a strong mentoring alliance through which faculty can effectively engage the students and received the 2003 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mentoring at a White House Ceremony and the 2003 Regents (University System of Georgia) Award for Excellence in Teaching and Research in Undergraduate Education in the regional and state university category.

Nancy Riggs is Grants Manager. She has a BA in History from the University of Chicago and an MBA from the
University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has over twenty years professional experience at the Southern Company, working in strategic planning, economic analysis, and rate case coordination (Mississippi Power Company), generation planning (Southern Co. Services, Birmingham), and supply-side and demand-side integrated resource planning and purchased power contracts negotiations and administration (Savannah Electric and Power Company). She joined SSU in 2007. Ms. Riggs completed the Management Concepts Grants Management (Recipient Track)
Certificate Program in February 2008.

Linda Meier is the Post-Awards Coordinator in the Office of Sponsored Research Administration. She has a B.S. from Ithaca College and comes to SSU with 18 years of experience in Research Administration at both Cornell University and the University of New Hampshire. Her expertise is in all areas of administration for externally funded grant programs from identifying funding sources, preparing proposal applications including budget development and proposal submission through project closeout. At SSU, Linda's responsibilities include all administrative activity on externally funded projects to insure compliance with both sponsor and SSU policies. Her objective is to work with faculty and staff to facilitate the administrative management that comes with any sponsored project. Linda was a member of the National Council of Research Administrators for many years, serving as the Chair of the Regional Conference for the Northeast Chapter and on numerous committees.
