Confucius Institute Mission

The mission of the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University To serve as a platform that promotes intercultural understanding in the U.S., as well as the study of Chinese language and culture (including art, music and literature), and to enhance educational exchange between the US and China.

President Cheryl Dozier and President Gan Xiaoqing, Jiujiang University, serve as co-chairs of the Board of Advisors of the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University. Director Peggy Blood and Mrs. Qijuan Luo, plan and promote the Institute’s programs and manage its day to day operations.

Located on the second floor of the Asa Gordon Library, the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University was established October 29, 2014.

Programs planned for the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University include Chinese language courses for SSU students, staff and community of Savannah; Chinese language and cultural art classes through SSU Lifelong Learning; faculty exchanges through Jiujang University; and a variety of cultural performances that will showcase art classes and exhibitions, theatre, and music (such as concerts, the Beijing Opera and panel discussions on world issues); and celebrate holidays such as the Chinese Spring Festival..

We are honored to have established the Confucius Institute (CI) at Savannah State University . Together with our partners at Hanban and Jiujiang University, we will enhance intercultural awareness of our students and the Savannah community. CI will foster understanding of diverse cultures, develop strong international friendships, and build mutual appreciation of and among American and Chinese students and their communities.
